MALAIKA

I thee wed malaika.
But I hath zilch wealth.
Or gold and spice from the East;
For your show cast on me;
Birds of the scarlet feather;
Your head adorned.

I was like a homing pigeon, malaika.
God released me from the hot volcanoes.
And I flew over many a year.
And vanquished many a dinosaur to make my road.
I always looked to a brighter day.
For malaika I know.
Before I lay me down to sleep.
I am destined to meet thee.
Yet I obediently fly upon dales.

I play my guitar on a starry night.
I see your smile in the stars.
And the stars move around.
They look like lips moving.
You speak!

Even the moon joins in sometimes;
Showing the jagged reflection of your image.
And I ask the moon to go away.

But it will not listen malaika.
The moon will not listen to me.
But the stars listen to me malaika.
I therefore assume
That you are in the stars.

But I get even more confused malaika.
Whence during the day you appear in the cumulus clouds.
For what I do you respond to me.

You hide the moon when I misbehave.
You splash me with tears when you are unhappy.
You dance in the North sky and I see your lights.

God forbid I meet you!
For my sole hope will be gone.
But when I have seen the film of life.
When the final credits roll,
I will leave the cinema of this world.
