FOR FATEHPUR SIKRI
Once upon a time there lived a beautiful woman.
She chose a very brave young warrior as her husband.
And in that century, there was no woman as beautiful.
And her husband went to fight in a great war.
Her husband came back home.
And the two - re-united.
Every evening on the call of the Taipei duck;
Both would sit in the garden
Admiring the red hues of Nature's wondrous spectacle.
But once a sombre messenger came
Carrying a warrant of arrest.
The old and accomplished man was charged
With crimes he had not heard.
He was dragged away in chains.
His beautiful wife toiled hard through his term in jail.
But before his term came to an end;
He was further charged
With murder.
One saw no proof or motive.
He was sentenced to a hanging in the town square;
At midnight.
As a crowd of crying thousands watched.
A most accomplished warrior;
Stepped onto the platform.
And the old man looked up.
And his wife looked up.
And the old man shed not a tear.
And his wife shed not a tear.
The thousands witnessed his death.
And the thousands lifted him
With the very strength of their anger.
The thousands died.
And none shed a tear.
Not a family;
None shed a tear.
Not a man;
Not a child;
Not a woman;
None shed a tear.
